Sales tax to fund transportation projects slated to be on the November ballot.
The Sonoma County Transit Authority is exploring a 1/4 cent sales tax measure to fund transportation projects. There is an emphasis on supporting projects that support Sonoma County's greenhouse gas reduction goals.

If the measure goes forward 38% for road repair. 27% to move traffic and improve safety, 23% bus service and bikeways 12%. This is a substantive increase for carbon friendly infrastructure and while we wish they would go even farther we applaud the boards efforts to align community needs and greenhouse gas emission reduction. Please write a letter and let your county supervisor know your opinion on the tax measure. See addresses below.

Tell CalPERS and CalSTRS to divest!
Like CalSTRS, the powerful California Teachers Association (CTA) supports staying invested in fossil fuels, even though CalSTRS has recently lost billions on its fossil fuel investments. Fossil fuels have been losing money for a decade: BP, for example, just reduced its earnings expectations by $17.5 billion because the price of oil is not coming back. Will teacher pension funds' investments follow the decline in value of fossil fuels to the bitter end? Sign the petition to instruct asset managers to STOP INVESTING IN FOSSIL FUEL companies now and divest from fossil fuel investments by 2022

Sonoma County Climate Emergency Mobilization Strategy
Sonoma County has already achieved the goal of reducing GHG emissions below 1990 levels but that is not enough. The Regional Climate Protection Authority is developing a framework to achieve carbon neutrality in Sonoma County no later than 2030. RCPA is soliciting input from community stakeholders and has convened the Sonoma County Resilience Advisory Panel.
Guiding Principles:
  • Prioritize equity
  • Connect local government initiatives to climate resilience
  • Advocate for policy solutions
  • Develop a replicable model
You can read the working draft plan for a ten year emergency policy package.

Shift your behavior to align with climate values.

Even while sheltering in place there are easy things we all can do to live sustainably.
  1. Start a garden. You save 2 pounds of CO2 from being emitted for every pound of veggies you grow and eat.
  2. Pack your groceries at the car. You can still bring your own bags to the market, you just cannot bring them inside.
  3. Explore your neighborhood by bike or on foot. We have extra time while sheltering in place so walk to the post office, or grocery store.

Have a climate conversation.

When we shift the narrator we shift the narrative. Your voice matters. We cannot change hearts or minds if we do not speak up.
  1. Talk with your friends and family.
  2. Share your message on social media platforms.
  3. Volunteer or partner with organizations you agree with to make your voice more powerful.

No More Gasoline! There are proposals for 4 new gas stations in Sonoma County up for consideration. We do not need more out dated, out moded fossil fuel infrastructure. Join the No More Gasoline FB group to find out when the next public hearing is.
